THose stupid Air pump things that lift the Hood, and soem cars have them to hold up there trunks or if they are a wagon or suv there rear door.

Do they make small ones of these? Chrome would be best...Just wondering.

And they dont necessarly have to be for a car hood...they dont need to lift any weight. Im NOT saying what this is for. LOL

I've seen them in chrome and lengths from about 6 inches expanded to about 3 ft expanded. Majority of them are in black... I'm sure you could take them in to get them chromed shouldn't cost too much... And i'm sure this would have nothing to do with the briefcase would it?

Check at automotive stores or glass shops might carry them also... U might even try a rice shop... One of those street performance places for the rice grinders. They always carry goofy stuff for cars so who know they might have them.

The problem you'll have is that they're made to lift, support a hood or trunk lid so they take ALOT of force to close, compress it. Try compressing one by hand at any auto parts store and you'll see.

Get one from a junkyard thats blown out. Like Evil pointed out, you won't be able to compress it otherwise.

maby. But I have seen small ones. Maby my dad will know where to get one.

Also need some locking tilt things. Not even try and figgure out what Im talking about.

even walmarts might have them in the automotive dept !

They are called "gas struts" and are used in a variety of applications. I have a pair of worn out ones from an old Plymouth that wouldn't hold up a trunk and they still require a hell of a lot of force to move.

If you are thinking of using them for holding open a briefcase or something small, the force and the stroke will be too great.

I would try searching websites that cater to people who do woodworking and cabinet making and look for something that is used to hold open lids. In particular, toyboxes seem to be a favorite project in those hobbies and because of the danger a dropping lid poses to small children there are a variety of devices for raising lids and holding them open that are sold for that use.
