as some of you might remember before, i was having problems with my car. It would buck violently as I accelorated.

So far, i have

-changed the fuel filter ($32.xx)
-changed the EGR valve ($89.xx)
-replaced the wires from dist. cap ($29.xx)
-replaced spark plugs ($30.xx)

Since I couldnt figure out what else was wrong, I took my car into the mechanic to have it checked out

So far, they have

-replaced the ERG posistioning sensor ($49.xx +$30 labor)
-replaced the Idle Air Control ($87.xx +$20 labor)
-fixed an exast leak ($35.xx)

So i went in today to get the car. The mechanics said that there were still 2 codes that were comming up. One was for the o2 sensor (which wouldnt cause the problem) and the other was a timing code (i think they said something about the timing rod(?) )

So free of charge, they fixed my timing cause it was off and I get in the car to start driving home. I start it up and it sounds good. It no longer studders or sounds like its gonna die when it idles. So i pull out of the parking lot and start heading home. I am in second gear and about 40 mph. And just when it should go into 3rd gear as I floor it, i hear the engines RPMs go wayyyyy up yet i am not going faster. Instead I start coasting. So I let off the accelorator and turn down a side street (cause I slowed to about 25 adn I wanted to get out of the way of traffic)

I start to test the car out on the side street. I would floor it and it would be fine through first and second, but as I hit third and get between 40-50, the engine rpms would shoot up but I get no go. This is a automatic, so I couldnt tell you excatly how the RPMs were, but its something you can just hear.

So any ideas as to whats wrong with my PieceOshit car now? (1988 mercury grand marquis, auto)

Line... They may have disconnected a vaccum line when they were in there dorking around without realizing it. Or, it could be the transmission control module (which also deals with the vaccum lines). Hope you can find it.. Just look for really tiny hoses that aren't hooked up anymore.. GL eGo

sounds like the 3rd gear clutch band broke... that would requier a trans rebuild or replacement. as far as fords go i dont know if itrs anthing else that would cause it... but on a chevy thats what normaly happens with what is decribed.
