New illinois law? ticket the slow drivers
just wondering for all the chicago boys out there....but I have heard rumors that there will be a new law imposed that if you are in the left lane....and you dont move over to let people pass, then you will get a ticket
just wondering if anyone else has heard of that
And from what I heard.....there could be 2 people driving in the left lane. If the person is going only 75mph, and the person is trying to pass....then the ticket would be at the officers disgression of who gets it. It could be to the person going 75 for not letting the person behind him pass, or it could be the one behind trying to do 80
just curious if there is any truth to that rumor

Gone for good. But never say never

It'd be un-enforcable even if it was really ever passed. I've driven through Chicagoland many times and I rarely ever see cops on their interstates. Most people drive as fast as possible whenever possible (IE: no traffic in front) SO I can't see how any cop would ticket a guy who's already legally going well over the posted speed limits. There are times when one can find a faster hole in the 3 lane interstate by going into either the center or right lanes too, those who want to go over 85 mph.
See, there are all sorts of vehicles on those roads, semi's, old people, people driving beaters that shouldn't even be on the road and the list goes on. I can't imagine how anyone could seriously enforce a law like that anywhere if passed even though many, like me, would like that too.

Actually, it's a law in most states, but under various names. Such as obstructing traffic, improper lane use, or even failure to yield. Just rarely enforced and probably fairly easy to beat in court if you fight it. C'mon, where's Nitro cop when you need him?
"my overclocked brain runs much faster with the thought processor disabled"
That is absolutely the worst driving problem ( well, maybe next to DUI) in America. My nephew's a cop in OHIO and I asked him about it ( people doing 55 in the left lane etc.) and he says they aren't allowed to write them. DOH !
I live near a tourist destination (Atlantic City) and these morons from PA (worst drivers in the USA) will sit in the left lane doing the double nickel when everyone else around them are trying to run 70-75 MPH. They are a highway menace. I think they should not only get tickets but also have to attend a class on lane management. Either that or make them do community service as crash test dummies. In Europe you get ticketed bigtime for being slow in the passing lanes.
Personally I have no sympathy for them. Lay the brights on 'em for as long as it takes for them to move over. Horn too, if necessary.

or occasionally use the shoulder to pass them. not that I would ever do that

The reason they don't enforce the slow driver law is becuase the make more money from the asshole in the corvette doing over 100 than the moron doing 55 in the left. And the asses on the C-rockets who use the shoulder to pass. Tell you the truth i would rather have the slow guy in the left lane rather tahn the crazy ass who is weaving lanes like hes some kind of l33T driver. Plus there are not very many good drivers in this country anyways too many automatic drivers who aren't paying attentions to anything.

It's annoying but one can usually get around the slower drivers if in a hurry. I'm not one to tailgate but if I'm really in a hurry and a slow driver is in the left lane, not looking back, I will drive closer than normal but I havent yet flashed anyone with my highbeams as some do. I tend to cruise at 80-85 and most people driving slow get out of my way when they see me coming up fast on their bumper IF they're checking the rear view mirror.
Law or not, I can see why no cop would try ticketing a person driving the posted speed limit in any lane as he'd win in a courtroom. Now, if it's an old person (90+) driving a Ford Model A going 40 mph in the left lane, then OK, I think he'd get the ticket but that'd be very rare as I've never seen anything THAT old on a freeway anywhere.

Yeah, in NC we have something called impeading the flow of traffic..
i know because when i was 16 some friends of mine were riding downtown (small town) and going as slow as they could in both lanes with lowriders..
Cops pulled them finally and ticketed them both..
I know it was dumb but at 16.. you will do crazy sh!t like that

True, if one carried a gun in the car the temptation to either use or flash it (raising it up) might get you in alot of trouble. Both of my cars have personalized plates and both are not exactly typical either so with all the cell phones now in most cars, it'd be too easy for anyone to call 911 and get you in legal trouble.
As I've been told by those older than me, with aging one realizes too that most of the time, if you really think about it.....what's the rush? Once you get to your destination, you're usually either at work or some other place where time doesn't really matter.
I tend to drive too fast out of habit since the first day I started driving over 30 yrs ago and I like driving faster as it's less boring to me. I also think that time spent in a car is wasted time but I am realizing too that many times when I'm speeding to get somewhere, once there I wonder why I was in such a hurry.
