Frontal airbags don't go off in side impacts. If you go to the link you see part of one of the doors still wrapped around a tree.
I would say that car basically disintgrated at the first impact. After all, it takes a lot of energy to split a car in half.

I think it was an Audi A3/S3 which isn't available in the states just yet. VW GTI audi clone is what it is. suppose to be here later this year from the sounds of it. But yeah they had to have hit that tree flat hauling some serious ass to tear a car in half like that. sound like the guy survived it though. definately would have been a scary ride.

Actually, if you look again at the pass. side seat, you can see that a side air bag mounted on the outboard side of the seat did go off.
