Decided enough was enough with paying to mount tires (they want $20/tire everywhere I go around here). So, I bought myself 3 tire irons from Harbor Freight (got a deal for $3 a piece). Man it's a pain, but worth saving $80. Took 2 hours for all four to pull them from the car, remove the tires, install the new ones, & reinstall them. Had to go redneck on one of them to seat the bead. Scared the crap out of me when it actually blew. I'm sure some of you have done it before.

It is scary, I did it once with a lawn mower tire. Scared me, but laughed my ass off when it worked!

Yeah, sounded like it was going to blow the tire apart, but there it was, seated nicely on the rim, on fire, but on the rim.

The secret is use a whole bunch of either, that way it works the first time and you don't have to get burned twice.

LOL, I was just happy it worked the first time. Actually, it didn't because nothing happened, so I tripled how much I used & then it worked. Also, I ended up using carb cleaner, because that's all I had, same result though.

It's funny, I don't see myself as a redneck, but I suspect that my neighbors think I am because I'm always working on cars or something.

Please tell me you pulled the core out of the valve stem when doing this.

Yup, I did what would be considered an over abundant amount of research before doing any of it. That's why it took me about 3 months to get around to actually doing it. I just didn't feel good about any of it. The best thing I learned though was to use a jack under my Jeep to unseat the tire from the rim. Actually, it's almost impossible to do it without removing the valve stem because you have to do it in order to remove the tire to begin with.... well unless you like hard work.

What did you do about balancing the wheels? All wheels need balancing after a tire is installed.

Yup, I had them balanced a few days ago. Though I did try them on the highway & they were pretty good till I got to about 60. I got an alignment as well while I was there.
