General Motors recalling 3.2 million additional cars in the US for ignition switch problems.

The cars being recalled are as follows:

Buick Lacrosse MY 2005-2009
Chevrolet Impala MY 2006-2014
Cadillac Deville MY 2000–2005
Cadillac DTS MY 2004–2011
Buick Lucerne MY 2006–2011
Buick Regal LS & GS MY 2004–2005
Chevy Monte Carlo MY 2006–2008

im expecting both my car's both Saturn vues will be added sooner or later. my 2002 Vue had it replaced swap once already. but i just found i can pull the key out anytime.

You know what a lot of the mechanics are saying? There would not be an issue if people didn't have 5 pounds of keys and crap hanging from the ignition.

My dad works in parts for a GM dealer. GM isn't making it easy to get these ignition switched replaced. In order to order one, the VIN must accompany the order. In other words, you can't simply drive to your local dealer and get a new switch. I get that in some respects because during any recall, you have to account for the vehicles affected. Once the switch arrives, two keys need cut and the tumblers set by service. That's stupid IMO. These should come ready to drop in. Once the switch is replaced, the old one must be sent back to GM.

It amazes me that newer GMs are affected. I think everyone but GM has gotten away from using actual keys.

my sister inlaw works in one of the warehouse's GM has that is shipping them switch's out of and there locked up in cages .you don't just grab it off a shelf .the order is checked then double checked by a supervisor for each and one one that is shipped to a dealer .she say's its really a big deal .the hourly union workers are scarred GM may not make it though after all these recall's not just the locks.

Unfortunately, I think there's going to be another power steering recall. There are pumps failing on vehicles like the Traverse. You have to replace the pump and the rack and pinion.

GM has one hell of a hole to climb out of. IMO, they need to drop Buick. I don't understand why you need two luxury lines.

Especially when the whole Buick thing is that it's not a Buick.

Those recalls aren't really costing GM that much $$ per vehicle and part of the reason why new cars today are so expensive is that warranty costs, including $$ for future recalls, future parts failures while still under warranty and class action lawsuits, past, present, future. Every new car manufacturer knows something's not going to last the duration of the new car warranty and thus, when you buy a new car, you're paying for all that. The car company isn't going to loose. Then too, for all those cars that don't have problems while still under warranty, that's $$ ahead as someone paid for that already.

Seems like the only reliable vehicles are the Japanese models. Also, is GM still referred to as "Government Motors"?

I still call them that. As much as I don't like Ford. I give them credit for not taking any handouts.

I actually have a 2000 Ford F150 Crew Cab. Nothing major and it has 136,000 miles. I even drove it to Chicago and back with no issues back in 2007. Just recently gave it a new paint job since the clear coat started to come off a few years back. Looks almost brand new. With that said, I noticed last week that my passenger window no longer works.

well today they added the 2002 Vue to the newest recall list I wasn't wrong. now I wonder how long to the letter arrives in the mail box and till they do a fix . also if the fix will really be a fix and not just a temp stop gap.

Make sure you keep the weight light on the keychain for now.

I'm only guessing - by the time this is all though . every ignition switched that is used by GM from the later 90 to last year will be recalled except for the newer type that you just press a button on the key bob or dash to start the car.

Saturn VUEs from the model year 2002-2004 are being recalled because the ignition key can be removed when the vehicle is not in the off position. GM warns that until the repairs have been made, "it is very important before exiting the vehicle for customers to make sure the vehicle is in 'Park' or in the case of a manual transmission to put the transmission into reverse gear and set the parking brake."
mines a 5 speed stick shift !

I read somewhere that the rental car companies have been reporting this problem to GM for years.
