Post by beef »

as some of you may know, i was planning on just building my own computer, but then, i discover, my need to save the money for my truck. so i still wanna get a computer, just i really cant spend more then four hundred dollars. and if would be possible i'd rather have a lappy then a system. the only thing i would need to use it for would be the net, little office work, and burnin c.d.'s. Can anyone PLEASE help me out???

damn, I've got a cheap laptop that I was upgrading for myself as a useful (read: more RAM & HDD space) net/word processing unit.

1 problem is that a tab to let the batteries work broke off (i dunno even how, just looked down RIGHT before I put the new one in & was like that's not right) So it seems to be a desktop unless you could get it fixed.
Another problem is the lack of a USB slot - I dunno perhaps you could just get a PCMCIA SCSI card & a nice 8x CDR (i've seen the PCMCIA scsi cards for $40 on Anandtech)

here's some specs.
Toshiba Satellite 100CS
pentium 75
upgraded to full 40mb of ram
upgraded to 1.3g HDD
I bought a new battery & that's when this happened.
I also have an ext. parallel CDRom & a combo modem/nic type2 PCMCIA card & a PS/2 port expander.

2 Dockingstations (this kinda makes it useful since you can't use the battery)
- 1 is the original, it's really nice - has 2! PCMCIA type3 slots (read 4 typeII slots)
- 2nd is one I grabbed when I saw it. No PCMCIA slots

I was hoping to get ~$200 for this, & maybe split the shipping w/ you (2 dockingstations is crazy)
