Sorry for getting back to this so late. I just got home and the cdrw was here. His idea of packaging a retail cdrw and sending it off was something like this: (Hmmm, let's see yep this box is just barely big enough for a drive to fit into. Oh, wait there is just a litttttle bit of room so I'll go ahead and throw in about 12, yes I counted them, styrofoam peanuts. There oh wait I promised him the software also along with this retail drive so here is an old version of Nero and just for good measure here is the product registration card.) No manual no Creative labs software that's it. I am going to throw it in my comp now to see if it works and I'll update this once I burn something with it.
Now here is an entirely different scenario and how this should have been handled on his part: I traded some hardware to someone else in exchange for a Voodoo5. Now I shipped promptly as this was going to be a cross trade and that person wasn't able to ship right away due to his backup card dying on him. Now I didn't have to drag this out of him and also he had references and he even said that if I absolutely needed it then he would send it anyway before he got my video card just to keep his end of the deal. Since he was honest with me from the get go and was willing to ship right away and didn't hide it from me it wasn't a big deal. A few days later he shipped the video card in a huge box that could have survived a trip over Niagara falls and even threw in a few games to make up for the delay in shipping. That is the difference between a good trader and a bad one. Sorry for the rant I'll get back to you guys once I see if it works.

Well I'm not claiming to be a rocket scientist or anything but I do know how to install a cdrom and based on my experience this thing is deader than a doornail. I uninstalled my Plextor and shut down the com and installed the cdrw that he sent and booted back up. CDrom started to make a grinding noise and the led came on and then it stopped. Once I got into windows I made sure that windows was detecting it and made sure that the adaptec software was recognizing it. All systems go on the software front so I open up the drive and throw in a blank cdr and a music cd in my other drive. Nada zip zero. For some reason my system locked up also. okay that's what restart is for so I get back into windows and same grinding noise and I throw the cd into the cdrw this time to see if it is in fact the software. Nope nada nothing yet again. I had to use the ol' tool to get out the cd from the drive since it wouldn't eject. I'm going to email him now and see what he is going to do about this.
Just got off of instant chat with him and he is going to reimburse me via Paypal. I'm still losing out on this deal but hey at least I'm leaving this bad experience with something. Just goes to show that no matter how careful you try to be there is always someone out there that is going to burn you. You just have to surround yourself with good people like you guys and live and learn.
