Lets say I was to send about $500 worth of stuff to Canada, USPS.
Can I mark it as a gift but still insure it for $500 ??? Trying not to make the reciever pay any duty taxes, etc.... Theres no way I would send that much stuff without using some type of insurance.
Thanx.

send it Global Priority,
it comes with $500 insurance automatically and you can still label it as a gift
Don't use UPS!

UPS has another arm of their company that they give the customs brokering to for crossing borders and their charges to the buyer are outrageous. If you use Global Priority, you still have to declare a value for customs purposes so you can only claim what you declare. The value is to assess federal and/or provincial taxes to the buyer, they are at the most 15% if the item was made in North America. Gifts up to 40usd value are allowed without taxes being assessed but usually higher amounts are let through as well. GP or fedex are the safest.

Thanx Hammer for the winning solution.
5pds cost ~20 while 7pds cost ~25 including $500 insurance. Its the way to go.

What ever happened to NAFTA(North American Free Trade Agreement)? I would think that since this is in effect that no one should be charged Taxes or customs fees for shipments(hence the word "Free" in NAFTA). I mean, I don't get charged anything if someone in canada sends me something, so why do they get charged when I send them something?
