System/DSL problems and Stuff For Sale/Trade Again

Post by JAKEL »

For those of you that emailed me awhile back on this stuff please forgive me for not replying, I had some System/ISP problems. First my hard drive blows itself up so I lost the emails I had received. Took me a few weeks to get back up and running after RMAing the drive. Then if that wasn't bad enough the morons at Pacbell screw my DSL connection up.

It turns out that while the telco guys were working on the lines out at the street, they end up crossing my line and I lose my DSL connction. I call them up, a day or two later they get a guy out to the box on the street to put me on a good line. Well the line was good at the street, but once it got into my townhome complex it went to shit so I still can't get sync. I call them back up and tell them to send me a telco guy to put me on a good line at my house. They end up sending me a DSL tech. He comes in my house, plays with my DSL modem and says "Well, you can't get sync here, must be a bad line"..."Thank you Captain Obvious". He tells me that he can't do anything to help me and that they'll have to set up a meet between a DSL tech and a Telco guy to get this thing working. Well a week or so later I take another day off work to meet these guys at my house. The useless DSL tech stands around while the Telco guys trys to find me a good line. Well he finds a line he thinks is good, but I still can't get sync. He figures there's a Bridge Tap on the line somewhere between my house and the street, problem is, he doesnt have the right equipment to test for the Bridge Tap. Now I start to lose it. I call up Pacbell and tell them they better get something done today. The Telco guy actually turns out to be a nice guy, he calls a buddy of his thats also working in the area and has the right equipment and convinces him to come by my place and help him fix my problem. After a couple hours they finally get me up and running.

Needless to say by this time I'm just fed up with Pacbell/SBC and decide to look for a another option. I end up going with Cable from Time Warner with Roadrunner. OMG I don't know why I waited so long to do this. My DL speed is now a full megabit faster than with DSL (2.2 vs 1.2), and I have triple the upload speed(370 or so).

So back to my stuff. I know a few of you were interested, but as I said I lost the emails and haven't been able to get back with you. If you're still interested let me know.
