yeah i believe it needs to be added in pairs, but i guess that would be up to the motherboard you got...if you have one that doesnt need it..more power to ya...not that ive heard of one personally...and a starting price...i dunno...i have no idea what it is worth to you...if you want it...tell me what you'll pay me for it...if you think its worth $40 to ya...offer me $40..if you think its worth $80....well then...offer me $80....

pricegrabber said something like $100, but i dont expect to get that...i'd be a happy camper getting $50....then again..you would probably have to find another chip to add in pairs....ebay? pricewatch?

i just got this thing and its doing me no good sitting here since all my memory slots are full... :)

C-RIMMS

Post by prodiGyBNTY »

Alright, I looked into it and here is what I found about RDRAM and empty slots

CRIMM
Continuity RIMM - For use in Direct Rambus RIMM Module configurations. The serial nature of Direct Rambus RIMM technology requires that all memory expansion sockets be occupied in order to complete the transmission line to the termination resistors. For example, a three socket configuration where only two Direct Rambus RIMM modules are used would require the use of one continuity module. Continuity and RIMM modules can be mixed in any order. All signal and control traces are matched for length and all traces on the continuity board are impedance matched to 28 ohms.

so it is possible for this to be used as a single chip, but I would check specs on your MOBO first just to be safe.

As far as C-RIMMs go, I found them on the web for $5 so even if you needed one, its quite inexpensive.

And I have an offer for $35 shipped, and I was about to take it, but because I had to search around and find this info out, I decided I'll take $40 shipped for it. (cause im brokeass and I wanna go to the LAN)

Im running I believe 4 slots of 256 RDRam right now, and yes they DO have to be run in pairs. Before I got the second 512 I did have two slots with the continuity thingys in the other two slots. Ohh and it has to be pairs of the SAME sizes also.
