Hey All,
I'm looking for an upgrade to my 8800GT.. I'd like to spend $100-$150. If anybody has one they'd like to off, or suggestions as to what I should buy, LMK! I've been out of the market too long to know what's best right now. I'd prefer something that is proven to be friendly with Ubuntu 10.04 as that's my primary OS right now..

Hey Greg, I'm really leaning towards Nvida atm, but I'll let you know.. ATI hasn't had a great track record with Ubuntu 10.04... I'd ideally like to find a GTX 460 768MB now that I've looked a little bit.. But I'm gonna keep doing my research and I'll get back to you, the price point on that is decent enough I just might take the chance..

Most of my info is from the discussions at [H]ard|Forum.normalicy wrote:Not sure where you're getting your info. I've been hearing $200-300. Amazon did a price leak a few days ago that had the 6870 at $279.
People felt the $279 price was overinflated.
The 6850 and 6870 are supposed to compete with the GTX 460 768MB and 460 1GB.
Since the performance of the 6800s is supposed to be better, people were hoping for a price drop on the GTX 460s.
This happened today.
The new pricing is as follows: GTX 460 1GB – $199 USD
GTX 470: $260 USD
The GTX 460 768MB will remain at its already-reduced price of $155 to $170.

The NDA is supposed to be lifted at 9 AM EST on Oct.22, so we'll see the actual prices and performance then.

Newegg has them listed already. Radeon 6850 for $180. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product
Radeon 6870s run for around $240 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product
So glad I waited now. I see my new upgrade *drool*

Darn, the reviews are out too. They are actually slower than the 5800 series. Not a whole lot, but I expected them to at least be 10% faster... not 5% slower. Looks like these are the new mid range & they are going to have a new high end series coming later that will be a 6900 series. Still though, they are both better than the 460 at least by a bit & the pricing does reflect the lower performance.
