don't know if this helps.

I got my KT7a a few days ago. I had the thing working to install win. Then i changed the fsb to 133. and power came on for 1 sec and shut down. I did everything like flashing bios. Thought id burnt the cpu. took it back to the shop and the cpu was ok. Took the mobo back and he tried it. Same thing happened. He then changed to a 266fsb T.bird pluged it in my mobo booted it. He then put in my cpu and it booted no problems. He said he had loads of T.birds do that on him. the cpu is ok, for some reason changing fsb settings screw up sometimes. Only thing i can suggest is find a duron/T.bird boot the pc. take it out and put in your cpu. It could work.

Chris.
AMD or Intel wont stop me but the laws of physics might. slowly on the mend.

Hey Blade_146....Did you try to update the BIOS in the mobo before you sent it? I got it to boot when I got my T-Bird 750 back from another PCA member who said it "didn't work", and then I got a boot up screen that says:

BootBlock Bios v1.0

Bios ROM failure

Please insert system disk........

I went onto the internet to find out what the hell BootBlock is and I found that it is a Bios shield that is activated when there is a faulty bios update made...This sucks...I'll let you know how it all turns out. The 1.2ghz T-Bird I have should be fine though. The board will not boot it without the new bios, so I'll have to get really nerdy to get this thing up. Not pissed though, I'm learn'in shit!!! Later-

i nope i never tried to update the bios. i dont usually do that unless i really have to. damnit this is the first time i've ever had a component i traded not to work right. LMK what you want me to do. if your unhappy then i'm unhappy. i really hate that you've had to go through all this trouble. if you think it needs a new bios chip i'll be more than happy to buy it for ya. just lmk what you need

This is a quote from another forum.

"I hope it's not too late that you've already sent the chip to Abit. I've got a solution for you..
You get Award BOOT BLOCK BIOS and then a message saying "Non-system disk".

You will need to get two floppies handy. On one download Abit's lastest BIOS and on the other use Windows 98 and make a startup disk.
Now stick the startup disk in and turn on the computer. (It should try loading windows, of course it will fail since your BIOS has gone bad) After it has done everything it will leave you at an "a:\" prompt
Now remove that disk and put the Abit's BIOS in and run the "RUNME" file on it. Now simply reflash your BIOS and reboot. Everything should be fine.

This has happen to be several times when overclocking (I think it happens when you make your FSB bus so high that your RAM cannot handle it)"

Yeah, I did that yesterday on "accident"....I used my Windows ME startup disk to boot up the system, and it told me it couldn't find any devices, drivers, yaddi-yaddi-ya...And out of frustration, I yanked out the startup disk, and voila!! I got the dos prompt to say A:\... I almost peed in my pants with joy....So then I put in the kt73r bios that I downloaded from Abit and BAAMMMM!! There it went...It flashed using AWDflash.exe and rebooted...Hoping to see that nice looking yellow energy star in the upper right hand corner after my vid card init, I got it all over again: BootBlock bios v1.0 :|

sounds like the battery is dead or you have the clear cmos jumper the wrong direction and blew the bios chip

Maybe a system short
I'd try starting the board "Outside" of the case, you know, remove it from the mobo tray altogether, put it on top of a "Non-conductive" surface, say the liner that the mobo came in, with only the processor and vidcard in and fire it up.
It's Worth a shot ::
