Im still holding out for the barton as an upgrade, and the k8 stuff for a New build. But that being said the chip seems to be pretty nice.

Good move by AMD to increase the fsb. Too bad it won't be widely available until next year.

The prices of the vapor AMD cpus are up. http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/Virt ... 09,00.html

nForce 2 is impressive. Too bad its not stable and won't be out for a few weeks. =/

VIA has a KT400A revision in the works.

I get so tired of AMD and their vapor... How long has it been since we've seen the 2600+ reviews and yet to see a 2600+ for sale... AT least Intel kicks the chips out of the door when they say its being released.

yea recently, but not so long ago the same thing was being said about intel. remember when amd let the 1g athlon out and a day later intel said they released there 1g p3 and it was about 2 months till anyone saw those...among many other examples.

Greg

Yeah, I remember....

Talk about vaporware, that really was Intel during the 1 GHz era. They were a big joke, trying to say that they had the product. I remember they had big stability problems with that Pentium III, and it really hurt their reputation. I still refuse to buy another Intel product, partly due to that problem, but mostly due to their inmoral business ethics.

Regarding AMD and the lack of chips when they are announced, I'm surprised to hear that. They must really be under pressure to get faster chips out before Intel hits 3 GHz. It's all about pushing the envelope, and betting that the horse will come in the money. If a little issue comes up, the chips don't go out the door, and they have egg on their face. :(

Right now I'm sittin' pretty with a 2100+ and my only bottle neck is a 17" monitor so..... the money I'm saving needs to go for a new 19 or 21 incher.

Make it a flatscreen....

Gand1: Yeah, forget the processor and get a bigger monitor. I strongly suggest a 19" flatscreen, such as one from Viewsonic. An 18" flatpanel LCD would be nice, but it's way too expensive. I do think my 17 " flatpanel LCD was a good deal at $500 (on sale at CompUSA a few months ago), but when the gaming action moves quickly, you do notice a bit of smearing. :D

yea, thats why you get one of the nicer lcd's. its a trade off. spend less = lower quality in this department still. I still havent found a better lcd at an ok price then that mitsu I got. cheaper then the sony and better.

Greg

There's a another reason however....

nexus_7: The system I connected my 17" LCD display to is the one my youngest son and my wife share. She doens't do the gaming thing, so it's a very nice display for her. My son (12) is better than me now, and I don't want to give him the best of everything, otherwise I'll be totally outclassed by his skills on the keyboard and mouse. With my 19" Viewsonic, I see what he's up to before he knows his next move..... ;)

I will wait for the chips. I do remember just about 2 years ago when Intel only made paper CPU's it took them 5- 6 months to actually put it out for consumption after they announced it.

AMD will cacth up with the paper. I'll wait , the CPU's are just better than intels.

I dont really like the 2800+. For the price its going for, I think going with a 2.8 p4 and a Granite Bay mobo is a much better deal.

Whats wrong with the price of it. Its right around the same price as the 2.8 P4 and just as fast. It will drop in price faster than intels top of the line will as it is... Let AMD suck up some nice dollars on their fastest chip god knows they need it.
