The specs for Soyo SY-KT400 Dragon Ultra (Platinum Edition) state:IDE Description
Four independent channels for 8 IDE devices (2 for RAID)
Supports up to PIO mode 5 & Ultra DMA 66/100/133
Two PCI bus mastering ATA E-IDE ports

1. Can I use this board without using RAID?
Without RAID, how many actual independent channels would I have?

3. If this mobo has onboard sound can I still use my soundblaster card?

You will be able to use your board without RAID or the onboard sound if you disable the appropriate options in the BIOS. They're usually under 'Onboard Peripherals' or something similar and normally come 'enabled' by default.

Couldn't advise you in the independent channels though, sorry!

you can use the board without raid, if you use the ultra drivers the raid part can be used as regular ide controllers. if you turn the sound off in bios you can use a pci card in place of the cmi sound. the options to turn raid/sound on/off are in the Soyo combo menu toward the bottom of the screen.
