AMD 2600 barton vs 2700 333 bus

Post by opivyattack »

Of the AMD 2600 barton which offers 333 bus speed, and 512 l2 cache or else the 2700 with a 333 bus speed but only 256 cache which is a better processor? theyre essentially the same price and I dont imagine I will be doing much overclocking because i have some mushkin value ram that cost 60 dollars for a 512 stick... Which would I be better off with? Thanks!

generally you will do better with the larger cache, all other things being pretty much the same

LoL!

They're both correct. You will notice more difference with the 512k cache than you will with the extra 100mhz of speed. :)

I posted the same question on another forum and this is the response i got how true is this?
"The cache mem only helps out a bit (very small) on extremely intensive tasks but overall the extra mem is slower. (More cache mem = slower)

The Frequency helps out more, the XP2700+ is going to be faster.
Also T-Breds run cooler than bartons."

thx

Yah, whoever said that doesn't know what they're talking about. There's a difference of about 250mhz between each of the two chips and when you take that down by 13 (which is the multi on the 2700+) you get a total change in FSB of : 19mhz.... This is hardly anything to squabble over.. Where as the 256K of addtional cache decreases the amount of work the CPU has to do, because it's able to keep more information on hand and doesn't have to keep sending back and forth for it.

awesome thx.. however this all may have been a waste :( . I was looking over my motherboard manual and it says amd 2700+ or higher.. what do they mean by higher? Will any socket A processor run at all its proper settings on my motherboard? I have an msi nForce2 k7n2 model ms-6570. Thanks! Because i will get the 2800 barton if my motherboard can support it.. only 20 bucks more with amd hsf.

That motherboard will support any socket A processor. Running a Barton would be no problem what-so-ever.. GL
