My new setup will be:

Abit AN8 w/ uGuru thingy
Retail 4000+ (San Diego)
Themalright XP90 with 92mm Panaflo on top
1 GB OCZ PC3200 EL rev. 2 TCCD (2x 512MB)

Board is flashed to accept X2 so I have a nice upgrade path. I am not toot crazy about ABit mobo's from
prior experiences but I will hang on until i see a board i like out there.

Anybody sugest a different motherboard? I have read great things about DFI's but I rather get hands on referals from my peeps here on PCA.

OCZ Boooooooo! lol.. I have the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, but my memory isn't that great so I haven't been able to OC it past 2.3 lol Once of these days I'll get my hands on some nice PC4000 or so and see what I can do.

Well, if you do a search for OCZ on the forums you'll find that a lot of people here are against them due to faulty products and bad support from a while back.. Most would say to stay away from them.

ok, I need some advice and this thing,it will be here in a day or so and want to ask, what proggresion of drivers should I install after windows completes it's install? Should i go Nvidia drivers first then all the windows service packs and security updates? Then vid card? (I have a nvidia vid card) Man I wish I could go with Windows 64 but the driver support isn't quite there as well as some of the apps I use arewritten for it yet. Is there a definitive list of apps on the 'net of 64 bit proggies out there that are compatible?

alrighty, I have the stuff installed, & here's my dilema:

Abit AN8 w/ uGuru thingy
Retail 4000+ (San Diego)
Themalright XP90 with 92mm Panaflo on top
1 GB OCZ PC3200 EL rev. 2 TCCD (2x 512MB)

I am getting lock ups after reboots where as i need to keep clearing CMOS to get it to boot again into windows. The ABIT motherboard has a POST code thing with two digit alpha numerics and I am either getting a error 7.A. which is "Detect & Install Co-Processor" or error 9.0. which is "Complete uGuru initial process AWARD BIOS taking over booting job". I have only vid card, ram(I tried 1 stick of memory then 2 then 1 in different slots to no avail), dvd-rw drive and only1 SATA drive installed. it's weird because when i clear the CMOS either once or several times after I F1 to bootand it goes into Windows it works just fine but if a reboot is needed due to software or a driver install tha's when it takes it's dump. Any ideas? :(

Nevermind I figured it out. 2 things: 1) Bad CMOS jumper (go figure), 2) flashed back to an earlier BIOS (more stable) problem went away.

My experience has been the best with this order:
Windows-SP1A(if XP)-chipset drivers-directX 9.0c-video drivers-antivirus app-microsoft update-sp2(online install at windows update)-all the other junk.

As for mem, never used OCZ. Had kick ass luck with Corsair 1024c2pt. Managed to get 2.5ghz out of a winchester 3000+(2.6 was achievable, but unstable)
at 2.4ghz, the mem is showing DDR 444, with 2.5-3-3-6 T1. Shouldnt need to buy pc4000 to get a good clock. Have heard the TCCD mem is the shiznit for overclocking though.

Also, the 6.66 nvidia chipset drivers will not install until directX 9.0c is already installed.

Theres no reason to hark on OCZ stuff anymore - the company has seriously turned around in the past 2 or 3 years. They produce quality stuff, and their support is also fairly good. I find their RAM is better quality in terms of speed and overclockability than almost anything else out there, and I've used many different RAM manufacturers over the past couple of years.
Welcome to the machine.

Deluxe or Premium? I got the deluxe and it is a sweet overclocker. The 1006 bios seems to be the best for overclocking. If it is the deluxe, ditch the factory chipset fan, noisy and will die in a short period.
