Looking for a new pci-x 939 mb, no sli or multi raid needed

Post by blackhawk »

Have to start my search for a new mb now that my opteron is coming and my MSI Neo2 mbs are lacking an upgrade path due to nf3 and agp.

Looking at DFI, all the rage but I'm not a big oc'r but want a simple oc and have good parts, not an asus fan due to a problem with an older P3 mb but thats the majority of available mb's up here.

The A8N-E seems to be popular, cheap and solid with some oc functions. Want a front audio connector thats not at the bottom of the mb(lianli case has cables not quite long enough to reach my front audio connector on neo2!) and 2 internal usb connectors and firewire.

I know FP has the a8n-e and there's one for sale here.

Will also need a vid card, I like ati and maybe a step up from the x800 or x850 but dont need/want to pay for high end.

Ideas?

I built a buddy a system using the A8N-E, it's been rock stable. He's running stock however, he doesn't want to o/c.

I ordered the asus, got the opteron and found out my msi mb was dead too(1 year warranty!), not just the cpu. Forced into the upgrade and bought an ati 850xt in pci-e, twin to my agp one.

Put the opteron on my other msi and its sweet! Only downside is the 9x multiplier but running it at 250 fsb right now stock and will try for a bit higher later but its the family computer so dont want to trash it. Opteron is also nice doing several things at once, dual works well first impression.
