Now this is more like the AMD we're used to seeing. It's not quite the performance dominating AMD of years past, but it's a competitive AMD. The Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition is, despite its lower performance in many cases, an actual competitor to Intel's Core 2 Quad Q6600 thanks to its price. The value is even more impressive if you happen to have a Socket-AM2 motherboard that can accept a 9850 as a drop in replacement.

Shame it took so long to get competitive. I still use their chips for friends, but my current Intel has overclocked better than any AMD chip I've ever had. It'll be hard to go back to AMD unless using stock speeds.
Bite your tongue! AMD is getting better all the time and don't forget Intel's unfair marketing practices. I'll never buy an Intel chip or machine if I can help it!
Not hating, it's just been hard to ignore the performance gap. I'd love for AMD to get their stuff together & whip some Intel butt, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen for a long time if ever.
I just hope that AMD can stay in the market. Even companies like Microsoft are laying people off now. The new AMD Phenom II CPU looks to be a winner with lots of overclocking headroom. Has anybody tried one yet?
The Core (2) Duos really dominated the AMD chips pretty bad. I used to be an AMD fan boy, mainly because of the price and its comparable performance to the intel chips. But I specifically got my laptop with the Core Duo instead of spending a little less for the Dual Core AMD as the intel chips seem to perform better
Actually, the AMD chips are still very competitive per price point. It's when overclocking comes in that Intel dominates. I have no issues recommending AMD if someone is trying to save some money.
