The AMD boxen is on its way...Yeah!
I just acquired three largish Intel manuals on P6 programming. In short, my queston:
Is any of the Intel architecture relevant to my new AMD?
Now, I know that AMD is x86 environment, but let's say I fire up an assembler program. Can I refer to the same registers? Are these registers the same sizes? I know Athlon has MMX extensions.
If there are going to be big differences, are there some good tech docs about them? I have found lots of good stuff over at amd.com.
My main concern is that learning the tricks of the AMD will not be worth it, as I am an assembler newbie. Methinks maybe I should stick with an Intel x86 for simplicities sake.
But I dunno, what do y'all think?
