I taught for a while at a local community college. Initially there were attached to a good local college. then they split and became a for profit outfit with open admissions (HS Diploma) + lots of loan officers.
The difference was night and day.
I left after 2 semesters of the new regime because 80% of the students could not even read the textbook or the syllabus.

On my way out the door I put a question of the final examination. The gist of the question (I used local towns) was "It is 5:25 pm in Miami, what time is it in Orlando?"

6 out of 15 got it wrong.

And these are the idiots getting hired into industry. See it all the time. Some of the places I go I wonder how they stay in business with how bad their in house repair guys are.
