Having some probs here............

What was to be a fun SAT nite of OCing has turned sour............

All I did what swap out a Dr. Thermal HS/ fan for a new Swiftech MCX370, the one with the triple clip, not the four screws under the mobo one. That part went pretty straight forward but when I went to boot for the first time, .............. <b>one long beep every two seconds</b>. No post, No video, No BIOS.........Nothing.

All the fans are powering up.
I've tried reseating the ram in every one of the four slots on the mobo several times.
Tried reseating the vid card...........nada. Same thing.
Tried holding the insert key down during boot and cleared the CMOS.........nuthin'.

I don't have another DDR board to test the ram but I'm going to test the CPU on my kidz KK266 mobo tomorrow.

In the meantime, any ideas? suggestions, advice? I'm befuddled.

have you removed the whole board from the case and powered up outside the case?

Thats what U get for getting that heatsink. Told you not to.

another, just unplug the ps from the board and remove the battery and get back to it tomarow.

Long beeps usually indicates a RAM problem. Did you ground yourself before working on the system? Hmmm.....

Sounds like a ram problem don't think ya could have nuked the cpu. Should have just kept that XP333R but no.... You had to go be a Via Slut!

you have one of those mobos that won't boot if it thinks the cpu fan isn't plugged in?

my dragon does that without taking it apart, i just pust reset until it comes on. it didnt do that before i updated the bios. i should put the 2ba1 bios back in. :-)

Did you by chance check the contact patch between the CPU and HSF? That beep signal correlates to an overheat on a couple mobos in my experience, and the only thing you originally did was change the HSF....therefore the prob is almost certainly related to that action.

Please don't repeat my mistake with the 1.33 I got from you.

Well. some GOOD news here...........Had to work today, but as I've started to test the various components, I'm happy to say, it ain't the CPU or the Radeon 8500. Usin' the vid card and the 1800+ here as I type, on my kidz Iwill KK266R. That's all good in that the 15 day warranty on that was long gone. Anything else that's bad , excluding the PSU, is all less than 30 days old so I can RMA stuff if I have to.

I'm gonna try to get the kidz Duron to boot on my system as maybe the different multiplier will have some effect. Next I'll yank the silly mobo and try reseating the mem on a flat surface etc. All considerations, including ESD (duh!), have been and are being, observed.

just a thought, but i got the same beeping alarm when the cpu wasnt seated all the way into the ZIF socket. one of the corners came out of the socket a tiny bit when i took out a golden orb.

i took out the CPU and applied even pressure to all four corners and then locked it down.

It's the mobo. somehow I killed it or it just died sometime during the swapping of HS's. Have an RMA # for it. It's outta here. haha. Thanks for all the advice tho. Never hurtz to ask.
