OK, OK, I asked for this.

For Christmas I asked for a Buy.com gift certificate. Here begins a lesson I have learned. NEVER ask for a buy.com gift certificate.

First, they screw up my email addy, so I never get the first one. Then I call and ask (after I find out I was supposed to get it) and they say, yup we'll send it out right away. So it supposedly gets sent again.

Can you guess what happens next,....

THAT'S RIGHT NOTHING!! I get nothing - nadda. In the meantime I'm getting email advertisements from these clowns like practically every day! So I'm on the phone again asking hey where is this GC? Nobody knows...

I have found out some interesting schtuff about buy.com GC dept. For example:

Did you know that they have exactly ONE person who does the GCs for all of buy.com?

Did you know that they feel that around the holidays, is a perfect time to reorganize their personel and move facilities?

Did you know that this person takes a weeks vacation at the holidays AND NOBODY CAN FILL IN FOR HER?!!

I've made about 6-7 calls about just this issue, talked with a "resolution specialist" (who ended up being a big zero) and had way more time into this thing than I want.

After this whole mess is straightened out, I'm taking my business elsewhere. The more I look around, the more I realize their prices aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Anybody else run into this kind of crap too?

*end rant*

Hee, hee!! Hey Gaz.

Yeah, I noticed that (about the coupons) too. One of those 6-7 calls was me telling them that WHEN I get my GC's they're going to give me $30 off my $150. They agreed with me (what else could they do - it's their screw-up).

I'm thinking I'm going to have to nail em on that new Plextor drive (the bastards).

In the back of my head, I'm thinking I read someone else (a while ago) who had a similar nightmare experience with their GC department (if you can call her that).

Crap - never again.

I've had extremely good luck with buy.com recently and have nothing but good things to say about them.
I ordered my Cheetah X15 from them (best price found) and with free S&H, it arrived the very next day. That was before T-day (not X-Mass).
Recently I ordered an good quality scanner from them using a $30 off coupon for all customers (someone here told me about it in another thread), also with free S&H. It was then on BO status but I soon afterwords received an e-mail that it was shipped and on its way. I havent seen it yet but I expect it'll be here next week and I'm cool with that, no rush.
Basically X-mass time is often a bad time to order items from many companies due to high demand and sometimes low supply but all in all, I've ordered many items from Buy.com and they've always treated me well.
As for coupons, they aren't constantly running there but when they are, they honor them without problems.
Even without the coupons, they're often the cheapest on prices.

I used to like buy.com but they started changing practices a while back. Not crazy about their return policy for one thing.

I prefer dealing with Onvia and Googlegear now. I also hear Bunta.com is pretty good.

Buy.com is good to buy products from if they have the product in stock. If they don't, don't mess with them since you'll be in backordered hell for weeks.

As for coupons well of course they expire. A week ago Buycomp had 3 $30 off $150 coupons. Thats why you check sites like http://www.techbargains.com and use the coupons when they come in. Eventually they will be another $30 off $150 coupon.

I think Buy.com will eventually go belly up.

Buycomp #1 :)
I like them, they have the best prices and get my stuff here within 2 days, usually.
Edit: I still wouldn't ask for a GC from them ;)
