LCD: Wavy Interference?

My dad has a 19" Viewsonic LCD. When we first got it for him it looked amazing. Now, for some reason, there is a lot of wavy interference going through it. It looks sort of what TVs sometimes do. At first i thought it was the wireless access point that is 2 feet away from it, but I unplugged it and it was still doing it. Right now I'm thinking it might be the way the cable is bent to accomidate the desk it uses. Anyone ever experience this? Thanks.

I just hooked it up to my computer. It looks amazing again, no interence. So that means it's either because of interference it's getting in the other room or it's something to do with my dad's computer, which is a very old crap emachines with onboard video.

Could be onboard video, could be the way the cable's bent.

The onboard video card would be my suspicion. There is really no way anthing could interfere with the LCD except MAYBE radio interference coming down the cable (which would meant it's coming from the computer, and that would again mean a problem wit hthe computer).

Unlike CRT monitors, LCDs are not affected by electromagnetic interference like power transformers and flourescent light fixtures.

Only other possibility: I can think of, but it's a long shot: Is the LCD pressed tightly up against something that might be bending the panel (like jammed under a hutch tightly)? Liquid crystals are affected by pressure, and will deform under pressure, which is why an LCD will show interference (wavy) patterns when you bend it or press on the surface with your finger.

Unless perhaps analog LCDs are sensitive to such things. Maybe try taking his whole computer to where yours is, shutting down/unplugging yours, and firing it up?

that would be my first step. if it does it where your box is, then its something with the computer. My first guess would be onboard video.
