I have a HP 6470z. It is getting slowwer all the time. Takes forever to boot up. And I am starting to get a bunch of blue screen errors, most of them are when I am using Internet explore 5.5. When the system started getting slow I upgraded to a Pent III 500 (took out a Pent II 400) with a golden orb. I also traded out the 96 meg of ram for 512 meg (not the cheap stuff, 2 256meg sticks).
I have went through all the steps. Shut off everything in config.sys, got rid of everything out of the start menu, even did a ctrl-alt-del and made sure everything was closed.
In the properties box I only have 70-75% resources free at start-up. Is there something I am missing? I hate to reload everything.

HELP!!!! computer super slow and locking up
Sounds like lot's of software conflicts. Fixing and trying to find those can be a major hassle and without accomplishing anything. Instead of putting up with more headaches a format may be your best solution. Just back up things you wish to save like pics or importants files. I've had similar problems with ie before and tried everything to correct the problems including uninstalling and reinstalling a new download, didn't help at all.
But maybe someone will come up with an easy way to solve your problems. good luck

Things I would try:
Repair IE - Go to add/remove proggies, select IE to remove and check repair option.
Before you do a complete format, try the procedure here:

BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO IT.
