whats this"bootup" message??

Post by RaT »

i get this message whenever i start my computer:

"Primary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed"

everything seems to work ok on my system so i was just wondering what it's for. i did notice tho, that whenever i start the computer and the bios detects the memory,hd & drives, it always fails to detect my cd burner. but when i get into WINDOWS it's detected there and works as usual.

my setup:
abit kt133a
pioneer dvd drive (forgot the speed)
memorex cd writer (4x2x24)
"I didn't do it!!!!"

MY guess is that you have a standard IDE cable on an ATA66\100 controler or port. If you have an ATA66\100 HDD I would get an 80 pin cable it would help performance.

Yup, you need an ata66/100 cable for that HDD or posibly the DVD according to what model it is :) Should increase yer performance a lil if you get one of these cables.

Yeah, ATA-66/100 cables have one of the grounds clipped. That way the controller can sense if you have the right cable.
