You can try the HELP function from your OS, it's not to bad.
Above is from my Win2000 HELP
To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt
Open a command prompt window.
In the command prompt window, type
convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs
Notes
To open a Command Prompt window, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command

Doc, I believe his question was also "will that screw anything up", and not just "how do I"...
Basterb, that should be fine. Partition magic does the same thing as the built in ntfs conversion tool. Just remember that you will no longer be able to access your winXP partition when in win98. Also make sure your Antivirus software is shut down.

hehe, it is kinda hard to read what was meant to be written
One thing about converting FAT to NTFS:
The Default NTFS Permissions Are Not Applied to a Converted Boot Partition
Just check here for more info:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb ... 7/3/99.asp
It's no biggy for most but I thought I should mention it.

Hi Doc, bit
Do you lose all data when converting?
If you have the OS on a (boot) NTFS partition, are you able to access the partition with a DOS start-up floppy?
If not, what you you use?
I have a dedicated video-capture (non-OS) FAT32 drive that I want to convert to NTFS.
Are there different versions af NTFS?
If I boot up with W2K installed to a FAT32 pertition, I'll be able to access data on BOTH FAT32 *and * NTFS partitions .. right?

Hi Radboy, lemme see
No, it's not like formating your partition, it only converts the filesystem.
You can't access NTFS with vanilla DOS bootdisk.
You would need the NTFSDOS from http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/utilities.shtml (freeware with read-only, read-write will cost ya)
You can also use the recovery console, either botting from the CD and selecting repair function or just install it on your PC, see here:
http://www.ntcompatible.com/faq226.shtml
You have to make some changes in the LOCAL SECURITY SETTING (admin tools) under:
/SECURITY SETTINGS/LOCAL POLOCIES/SECURITY OPTIONS/
and set the "Recovery Console: Allow floppy copy and access to all folders" to ENABLED. Otherwise you wouldn't have access to all partitions/folders using the recovery console.
Yes, but the only problem is with NT4 systems and Win2000/XP-NTFS, NT4 can't access NTFS5 not directly, you have to update it. Win2000 has no probs with WinXP NTFS.
Win2000 can read FAT/FAT32 and NTFS with no probs, it doesn't matter if it's installed on FAT32 or NTFS.
