I can't speak for any other Samsung products, but I've seen very poor lifespans on Samsung monitors and drives. This goes back about 2 years, but Samsung is notorious for using cheap components.

The drives are definately junk - they're as bad as Fujitsu drives.

I personally wouldn't buy one.

Flying Penguin is not wrong about samsung monitors, I had a new 955DF that went up in smoke in about 5 min, stank up my whole room, got a replacement, the replacement guy said they replace about 250 of these every month in NewYork State Region alone.

The only thing good that came out of samsung was the good old pc100 sdram. Everything else like cellphone, TV... are all pile of crap.

I'm buying a Viewsonic GS790 so I won't have to know if Samsung is bad or not. But thanks for the info anyways.

My vote is for the LG Studioworks 995e, I think you would be very happy with it, I know I am.

GS790?

Post by Slugbait »

I'm on my second GS790 in the last four moths...and this one is ready to be replaced, too. For some reason, both monitors developed a hard-reset problem: after a minute of being powered up, the power cycles. Then about a half-minute later, it power cycles again. Kinda scary...never seen anything like it, and I've used a LOT of monitors at work over the last six years.

Welp I guess I got lucky because I have had this Samsung 900p for like a year and a half now with no problems. I guess my friend got lucky too cause his is still working as well. Lookie there! Holy shit there is a Samsung 21GLs sitting on the other side of my room with a mfg. date of 11/96 and it is still working too! I guess that was a lucky one as well. ;) Just picking! These may not be the highest quality but they are still kicking. I think Samsung makes boatloads of monitors so I think it would stand to reason they you would see more of them with problems because there are more around. FP, I also believe what you say about the parts, you get what you pay for and I didn't pay a whole lot which is why I have them. I'll use em till they stop kicking but I don't expect them to last forever. Hell, maybe I just really have been lucky with Samsung. I dunno...
