Uh .."this is gonna be easy" ????
Ok, you've admitted that your 600e ( any P3 actually) is slower than an older t-bird platform. That's my point. What's yours? That's not big news. I have a 600e based rig too running at 866. My 8 and 10 year old use it. I'm not being condescending, I have a job and I like to have a few nice PCs around the house. It used to be my main rig a year or so ago when Intel was the only one w/ on-die cache.
I never said Intel was a MONOPOLY. However, when the competition was less than stunning ( cyrix, k6-2 etc.), what were you paying for your Intel chips? I'll answer the obvious.....PLENTY! My point is, they can't do that now be cause not only do they have competition, but said competition is WAXING the blue boys in a major league fashion. In order for them to even compete in the performance aspect, you must do a MAJOR restructure of you PC ( read: Kakarot's post). Even then you might get a bit better Q3 play and a few SSE2 based progs run a bit better. Besides that, P4's are basically duds.
As far as the market street reference, I was only relaying a chip sector analyst's recommendation that I had listened to on one of the financial news programs. His opinion was that AMD had more upside than Intel. In light of recent developments, I don't see that as being going out on a limb. Intel has made some unsound choices, most notably their alliance w/ RAMBUS.
Stock Analyst Eric Ross, Thomas Weisel Partners......
"Intel has made a fundamental mistake with the Pentium 4 !"
"We think that AMD is actually going to move to 0.13 at the same time as Intel..."
"Athlon makes a lot more sense....."
"...most certainly in copper interconnect manufacturing.......they are now manufacturing a majority of their High-End microprocessors with 6-layer copper interconnect.....Intel is not producing ANY of them !"
So maybe next time READ what I'm saying before you tell someone that they don't know what they're talking about. I'm all for some spirited debate but there's no need to insult people. I can play that game too, but in your case, I'll let you handle the low road. You're much more adept at that than I.
