when ever I play Q3 for more than 20 minutes the video output starts to go all crazy. It's almost as though I've got terrible lag and everything is in slow motion all of a sudden but it's happening when I play single player against the bots. I'm not overclocking but could the card be getting too hot?
Here's the rig that I'm having the problems on:
celery 300a @464
v3 3000 AGP
128 mb ram
20gb 7200 rpm HD
Anyone have any ideas why this keeps happening?
v3 3000 getting too hot?
the v3's were known for getting Really hot. and Now that they attach the heatsink with Glue instead of push pins I think it has gotten worse. Yes it does sound liek that might be the prob. here are a few sugestions.
Nonwarantee voiding ones first.
get a Slot cooler and put it under it.
get a Card cooler or card cooler XT.
RMA it and tell them it SUKS!
now lets void that warante
Screw a fan into the heatsink....Might have 2 bend the fins a Little.
Fragtape an Additional heatsink on the Back of the card where the chip sits.
Remove the heatsink and put a better one on.
Jump up and down on it and then get a radeon.
http://www.2cooltek.com sells all this stuff and has instructions on how 2 do al this stuff as well.

Before doing that...
Remove the case cover and have a small house fan blow on the guts of your pc to see if it's trully a heat problem or not. Easy way to rule that out.

I doubt it's just heat - the V3 doesn't slow down when it gets hot - it either crashes or gives you corrupt textures.
How many bots are you using - too many bots will cause a lot of lag - takes a lot of CPU power to run the bots, and you haven't exactly got a powerhouse CPU there. On a P2-400 I could never get smooth play with more than 4 bots.

It could be heat
When chips overheat it's difficult to predict what they are going to do, I wouldn't rule a heat problem out out of hand.
