I went to the website, and read how to use it, even printed it all out. I just want to hear what all of you have to say about using thermal compound. Should I put it on the core of my athlon, and only that? Anywhere else?

Thanks.

Just put a lil dab on your core and spread it evenly over it. Dont put it on the heatsink too, because too much thermal compound can also cause your cpu to run hot as it will act as an insulator if too much is applied...

So, do you suggest I let it dry on the CPU core, so it doesn't get on the heatsink?

My bad, it will get on the heatsink, but to apply a layer on the heatsink AND the core could be overdoing it. What thermal compound does, is fills in the microscopic holes and uneven spots in the serface of the heatsink and the core, so that every area has maximum contact Although thermal compound is a good heat conductor, it is not as good of a conductor as metal, and putting too much on it would cause it not to conduct as well as just putting a small amount, so just put a dab on the core and spread it evenly, put the heatsink on and you should be good to go.

Ok, cool. So a dab be like a little eye drop. :D Something that doesn't cover the whole core. More like a little circle in the middle of the core. :)

Oh, it will need to definately need to cover the core, but in a thin layer..which it dont take much to do.

Just a spot in the center, then use something like the edge of a credit card and spread it real thin across the core. :D

Yeah, that's what I meant NascarFool. :D
