At work here they need to get a digicam. I want to recommend the best possible one for them...

Their budget is around $700. They want an all purpose camera. (meaning it will be used for image processing so high quality will be needed)

Some other things I must know are what options are good. I think I would need USB and something that can hold at least 50+ pics... Any other ideas would be appriciated. So what's the best camer for me to recommend?

Thanks

Usb is the quickest way to transfer pics to a pc.

One thing to avoid or ignore is digital zoom. If zoom is needed then look for optical zoom, it's true zoom. Digital zoom simply enlarges the center of a pic therefore you lose quality.

The abilty to change or add additional lenses is good, if you think that would be needed.

A flash, self timer, a rechargeable battery option and an lcd screen to review pics are all good features.

I'm not up to speed on the latest ones but these sites are

They have forums there too so you could ask from those who know.

Any of the BIG FOUR of the 3.3 mpixel cameras run at around 600 to 800 dollars right now.

There's the Sony DSC-S70, which runs at around 650 lowest.

There's the Nikon Coolpix 990, Olympus 3030z, and the Canon Powershot G1, which run at around 750 lowest. Check out Pricescan: http://www.pricescan.com/01010601.asp It's a great site to search for low prices on digicams.

Now it's for you to choose between those three. :)

If you want the most features and options, go with the Coolpix 990 or Canon G1.

If you want total ease of use, go with the Sony DSC-S70.

I would personally choose the Powershot G1 because it has the same amount (or more) features than the Coolpix 990, and has the fastest lens out of all 4.

If you absolutely cannot go over 750, I guess you'll have to side with the Sony DSC-S70.
