I've only previously done this with Maxtor HDDs using Maxblast software and that was cake.
I'm now running Partition Magic 6.0 sent to by a fellow PC Abuser and it's asking me Q's I'm unsure of.
All I want is 2 9 gig partitions on my new 18 gig HDD, so do I want to create two primary HDDs, one primary, one extended or what? The included help file refers me to the cd which I don't have, it's on a floppy.
Creating partitions with new HDD using Partition magic 6.0?

No one here knows?
I go into operations, created a 9gig primary partition labelled C, then
the remainder was unallocated so I r.clicked on it, created a 8.495.3 mb
logical partition (D) within what's listed as an extended primary partition
shown above that but it's just got an * under the word partition, says
"extended" under the type heading.
I think I've got it right but what bothers me is that its size seems to be
smaller than the whole extended partition (8.3gig). Actually, the same is
true for C as size vs used size is also smaller.
At the very top it shows 2 boxes, C and D but D is within another box and
looks smaller than that box (8.3gig compared to 8,495.3mb). Under the row
"Partition", it shows 3 rows: C: (as a fat32 primary), then * as an extended
fat32 primary, then D as a fat32 logical partition.
Does this seem right or should I start over doing something else?
