WXP + NetBEUI

Noticed that M$ makes it hard to install NetBEUI on WXP:

What is the reasoning behind this?
I haven't installed it yet. Should I?
I multi-boot (W2K, WME, WXP) with another PC (home) with similar O/S multi-boot config.

It's not hard to install it.
It's no longer supported however. They include the protocal files seperately on the CD in case you need to setup an XP system on a "Legacy" network.
I personally like NetBeui. It's a fast, robust and small protocal that's great for file sharing on small LANs.
I also like using NetBeui for file sharing ONLY and using TCP/IP for Internet access ONLY for security reasons (by setting your binds appropriately as recommended by Steve Gibson). It's rather risky exposing file sharing to the outside world unless you use secure passwords, but that's what MS wants us to do now.
NetBeui is not routable however, and Microsoft's reasoning is probably standardization - especially since most LANs now have shared internet access anyway.
Most software vendors prefer TCP/IP as well to make troubleshooting easier.

Hi Radboy,
This was mentioned/solved months ago in the OS forum here by The Flying Penguin. It was easy and painless too as I've done it.
The thread should still exist (yes).........
