It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and my mouse is on its way out. I have a cordless right now, and have loved it, but it's gotten to hard to clean and keep running smoothly. I'm thinking about getting an optical mouse. The Logitech line looks pretty good, but I'd like to hear what people think about the different mice. And is there any chance at all that an optical mouse would work with my white Everglide? I've heard that they don't work, but the Everglide site says "may not." And has anyone tried out that cord bungee? Okay, enough questions, any help is appreciated. :)

I have the MS Explorer optical mouse. Early versions had problems with quick movement in games but I have not expereinced any problems at all. It is rather large and some don't like that but I love it. It has 4 programable buttons that can be set to almost anything. I don't use a mouse pad just my desk top but it has worked on every surface that I have tried. It comes with an adaptor to convert USB to PS/2 which I use so I can have a mouse in safe mode and when doing a fresh install of windows. Just my two cents but i would not be without it.

Well i don't suppose this will help you. I never have bought expensive mice. i am using the Genius net mouse pro. It has 3 buttons and a up down scroler for the internet. It is great for playing fps as you can quickly change your weapons. Ho and the good part less than £5.

MS Mouse

I've got an Explorer and my wife is using the Optical. You really cant go wrong with these mice. The new ones are even better. I love the explorer. The front and back button on the thumb side rule. I use them all day long.

JMan, I have the Logitech Optical Mouseman, the Microsoft Explorer and Intellieye Mice...

The Logitech Optical Mouseman spanks both Microsoft mice... All the MS mice are hiding in the closet right now...

Yep, logitech mouseman optical is wicked. I tried it at the store, and I couldnt take my hands off it. Of course, I didnt have enuff money on me, so they eventually managed to pry my hands off the mouse.

Instead, I bought the Dexxa optical for like...1/3 the price. Nice, cheap optical mouse. Been great so far

Interesting... I'll check the mice out, when I can. It may be awhile since my parents are out of town for a week, but I can wait. :)

I have both the Explorer and the Optical. At first I thought it would be my mouse for life. Can't beat the feel of not having to the friction of the ball. BUT, I am a gamer and that's where I had problems. Sometimes when I had to make a really quick movement to dodge a bullet, I would find myself facing not where I was supposed to be. Sometimes facing back where I started, sometimes facing up, down, everywhere but where I was supposed to be. Never had that kind of problem with the ball mouse. Got really frustrating to the point that I went back to the ball mouse. Until the optical technology get to the point of being able to keep up with those quick movements (that you only need in games) I will stick with the ball even though I don't particularly like it. I am currently looking for the Logitech 4 button ball mouse but that sucker is sure hard to find. I have had one of order straight from Logitech for two months now and they still don't have it.

Looks like frigging Logitech isn't making their ball based Mouseman Wheel anymore.

still using my Logitech MouseMan, i cant justify the cost of the optical mice -i only just convinced myself to buy this one, it was like £10, but that was long ago!

something i have never really got into as well, is these expensive mouse mats -what is so great about the everglides?

The Everglide is very good because it lets the mouse move way better. I'm not sure how to really explain it, but there are tons of good reviews for it, they can do a better job.
The iFeel mouse from Logitech looks pretty good, and has gotten good reviews, too... but I don't think it comes in a version with more buttons on it. Thanks for the input,

I'm not crazy about the size of the explorer, I have a MS Optical though, the off white one, has plenty of useful buttons but still a decent size, I like it alot.

Give one a go.....

Post by Wolfman »

I've got the Optical Explorer and it is very good. The new ones from Microsoft sample movement at 2000 times a second instead of the 1500/sec like the original ones did.

If you go fer one make sure you get one with the 33% faster sticker on the box or you'll be getting one of the old stock.

I have the IntelliMouse Explorer w/my Q3 arena everglide mouse pad and this thing is vicious! I love it, really. I have NEVER had any problems with it in games and not responding quick enough. THe two side buttons alone I have gotten so used to that I don't think I could ever use anything else.

It is rather big though, so if you weren't blessed with big hands, it may be a little hard to use. MY hands are huge, so I have no problem with it. Also, the side buttons are high enough up on the mouse that I have never accidentally clicked one (unlike my friends optical--which I hate) Try it out, I think it rocks!
