ok i put in a new mobo andand everything.... and then i get 3 beeps and nothing....its just yea.... what does 3 beeps mean? and then i did some stuff to it and then i get no beep and no boot.... help plz!! thanx

here's something that I guess is sort of a rule of thumb?

Beep Codes

Refresh Failure
The memory refresh circuitry on the motherboard is faulty.

Parity Error
Parity is not supported on this product, will not occur.

Base 64 KB Memory Failure
Memory failure in the first 64 KB, or Monitor not plugged in.

Timer Not Operational
Memory failure in the first 64 KB of memory, or Timer 1 on the motherboard is not functioning.

Processor Error
The CPU on the motherboard generated an error.

8042 - Gate A20 Failure
The keyboard controller (8042) may be bad. The BIOS cannot switch to protected mode.

Processor Exception Interrupt Error
The CPU generated an exception interrupt.

Display Memory Read/Write Error
The system video adapter is either missing or its memory is faulty. This is not a fatal error.

ROM Checksum Error
ROM checksum value does not match the value encoded in BIOS.

CMOS Shutdown Register Rd/Wrt Error
The shutdown register for CMOS RAM failed.

Cache Error / External Cache Bad

in any case, the best thing to do would be to look it up in your mobo manual to see if that tells you what 3 beeps is supposed to mean...

well...with the beeps...it varies by the mobo and manufactorer

What mobo is it? Try checking out their site to see if they tell you exactly what the beeps mean


and what exactly did you do to it to not beep?
now....this isnt brain surgery...but you still gotta be precise and accurate with your details

In a modern board here's a good rule of thumb to remember about BIOS beeps.

The board will always beep for video or memory errors, almost everything else will get displayed on screen. You can look up AWARD's/PHOENIX's pages and they basically tell you the same thing. It's either memory or your video card. Any other reason it would beep will mean an RMA heh

My experience has been that mem problems are consecutive long beeps and video problems are a long beep followed by 3 short ones. Check your vid card.

Reseat your memory and vid card.

Swap the memory if you have another, or if it's more than 1 stick just use 1.

id say that the vid card isnt in well, try pushing it back in.
