I've still got Wickedmf's old school P150mmx Toshiba lappy.
Find myself using the lappy more and more for the net and general homework, and the one I got is a turtle with a broken leg

I don't have the chunk of money to throw at one, so no Geforce2Go for me

Here's the basics of what I want in my soon to be lappy:
At least 15" display (best display technology types? TFT?)
At least a lowend P3 or highend Celeron
At least 64megs of ram (will prolly upgrade to 256)
At least 6gig HD
At least a DVD drive
Prefer 2 mouse devices (pad and pointer)
Integrated floppy, sound.

I really prefer Toshibas, DELLs, or HPs, not so much Sony or Compaq, or *gulp* Emachines.

LMK if you guys got a model in mind that fits most of the bill User experience is a plus too

BTW, anybody know when the Geforce2Go is coming out? How 'bout 1 Gig P3's for lappies?

I have stuck with the Toshiba's even in a business environment, I have found them to be reliable and durable. I have worked on Compaq's, Dells (which are possibly the best but the most expensive), Sony and Sagers. The thin is to get the most bang for your buck and you are talking Compaq and Toshiba on sale somewhere and between the 2, to me at least it is a no brainer.

Dells are the best. Compaq's have alot of problems from everything i've seen. Toshiba's are great too.

I've found semi-deals in dell refurbished, they have a cel 500 15" ati mobility-p for $1154+tax,shipping . all the lowend toshibas i've found were hpa for some reason. compaqs are cheap. i'd like to know what you find, too.

Went back with Toshiba this time around cause they're pretty sturdy and I've gotten accustomed to their designs. Others just look a bit whacky to me

we got some celeron 600s with 128mb ram, 18gb hdd, a display that looks to be as big as a 17" monitor, includes the mouse, sound, cdrom (can get an upgrade), nic, modem, and bag for $1495 from dell.

real nice for that kind of money too.

if i could've found a Dell lappy for that price I'd have that instead of my Tbird right now

two reasons we got that price at work. Educational disctount and the big one BULK order. when you get 50 of em, they tend to lower the price

DAMN, 32mb ATI rage mobility on these little monkeys makes em VERY nice in Q3 That's a first, a laptop that's actually able to "play" games like that. Sticker price for an individual buying one of these is $1984... but they're worth it.
