After formatting, I lost at least one good program that I paid for (ACDSee32) and am now using a trial version. I know I'm not the first person to lose programs like that during a format (or a new PC/HD installed) so does anyone know if the company is likely to just give me my program back or will I have to buy it again.

If you purchased ACDSee you should have a serial number for it (they probably e-mailed it). Install the demo and enter the serial number.
