man, I just looked in todays newspaper (sunday newspaper) and I saw Best Buy selling a Sony "Super fasT 12x8x32 Internal CD-RW Drive" for $149.99 (after mail in rebates) That's all I know about it from the picture.
I thought that the price sounded excellent for a 12x CD-Burner, but I guess it depends on the drive. Are Sony CD-Burners alright? I've always been happy with sony before, so I dunno.
Sony CD-Burners alright?

That is an excellent price, but it's always a hassle with rebates. I HATE REBATES. You could also try and price match at a different place and see what happends.
btw, Sony's are pretty decent burners. I have a HP8100 that I bought 2 years ago (HP's are mostly Sony made), and it's still going strong. I also have a Plextor SCSI setup for copying those hard games using CloneCD. You might want to check to see if that drive is supported by CloneCD:

Good to hear they might be decent. Heck, I just want a CD-Burner right now, I've never had one and been dyin' to get one. It'll go on my chirstmas list. I keep hinting to my parents about "there is a good deal on a CD-Burner at Best Buy" so maybe I'll find it under the tree Ya never know?

Make sure to check out the CloneCD link and the hardware requirements. Pick a Sony that is listed there. Here is an exact link to the hardware:
http://www.elby.de/CloneCD/english/hardware.htm
These are the ones I saw listed:
Sony CDRW CR-X120E, CR-X130E, CR-X140E, CR-X140S, CR-X145E, CR-X145S, CR-X160E, CR-X160S. These burners support:
Can write CD-Text & CD+G
Write Simulation
Normal Read
Read Subchannel Data from Data Tracks
Read Subchannel Data from Audio Tracks
Also, make sure to get the lastest firmware as stated in the Comments column.
If your parents are buying this, you also could opt for a Plextor instead, which will cost a few dollars more. What would be nice would be a Plextor combo: Plextor burner and a Plextor reader on a cheap SCSI card. Then you'll be able to burn on the fly and use DiskDupe, which only works with 2 Plextors.

I ordered a Dell Workstation for my workplace 1 year ago and it came with a Sony Burner. I have had no problems with it at all, and it has done both data and audio burns. The audio burns/copies were excellent.
Nothing wrong with them and that is a good deal => Go for it. . . .

What is this CloneCD? I just went there and that sucker cost $50. Is this what I am going to have to do to burn CD's when I get my Plextor 32X/12X/10X EIDE that I just ordered? Fill me in on the skinny. I am new to this stuff and I need to know what I am going to need to do my copying once I get my CD/RW.
BTW, DiskDupe works if you have one Plextor (RW) and a non-Plextor CD. That's the setup I have.

If you want to be able to make an EXACT copy of a CD, then CloneCD will do it for you. Every CD that I have burned with copy protection (SafeDisc, SecuRom, DiscGuard, CD-Cops, LaserLock, Dummy Files, and illegal TOC), I was able to make a perfect working copy just like the original. There is even a Clone Database that lists games and programs. You simply look up the game or program, and it will pass the correct settings to CloneCD. Here is the link:
