combining multiple cds on a dvd

Post by Basterb »

I was thinking of backing up some of my older games. What i wanted to do was to take the game which is on 3 cds and put it on one dvd. Is this possible. also I noticved that after i am burning a dvd the comptuer has a hard time reading it. it just says it's blank. once it can read it it is fine. And it's only one brand of discs that does this. Their Precision Digital. Is there any way i can read these discs, so i can reburn them. i can't even get them to read now. Burner is a Benq 1620.

Some game/apps will allow you to put each disc in a seperate folder on a DVD, as long as the folder is named a certain way but there's no guarantee the installer was designed to work that way. So I'd say no, unless you find out it's possible for a specific game.

Do NOT buy non-name DVD-Rs or CD-Rs, you will pay for it later (as you're finding out). You might try running a cleaning disc through your DVD-Rom drive - maybe the lens is a little dusty and it's having trouble reading. Other than that all you can do is try reading them on a different drive if you have one available. DVD-Rom (readers) drives so cheap, might be worth buying one just to see if it's more forgiving and will read those discs.

Couldn't you do this:

1) record the game CDs to .iso images,
2) burn the .iso files to DVD
3) use a utility such as Daemon Tools to mount the .isos as CDs?

The only problem I can see with that is that some games will refuse to run if Daemon Tools is active/installed.
