About a month or two ago I finally picked up an LCD, and handed down my very sharp and clear KDS 19" to my son. Now this monitor is nice and all, it plays modern games with relative clarity, BUT, it won't play my favorite game without blurriness (ghosting?) when moving about quickly. I play Unreal Tournament daily, I am on the run and Gun Low gravity sniper servers, and whenever moving around quickly the picture is horrible. Blurry, hard to scope in, is this from the fact that this game is 5 years old? I have the final patch installed for the game. Could it be that it is just too old and there is no driver/patch support for an LCD monitor?

Thanks

Response time is 16ms so it's not the monitor.

If other first person shooters don't ghost, it's probably a visual setting in UT.

Hmm, It worked great on my CRT, but because of the extremly poor quality of the picture now It makes playing it very cumbersome.

thanks for the replies fellas, I will look into the UT settings to see if there is any kind of adjustment for it. I did use the disk that came with the Dell to set it up, and it only happens with this game. :(

I have the same monitor and have never had those problems in FPS's so definitely check either your UT settings or your vid card settings.

what's your resolution and refresh set at?

Refresh rate doesn't have any real bearing with LCD's, but yeah I was going to say make sure that the games resolution is at that LCD's native res of 1600x1200 or else it will look blurry. Having to play games at the native res of an LCD is my biggest problem with them, which is why I'm sticking to CRT's for now...

The only thing I could find as far as tweaking the video was a setting for "desired FPS" which was 22 at deault, I raised it to 55 and that made a slight difference, any higher didn't help.

Make sure your refresh is at 60 or 75 while in the game (check the status in the monitor while playing). Maybe it's dropping below 60Hz for some derranged reason.

Both NVidia and ATI have settings in the advanced display properties to override the refreshrate in games.

For games I prefer 75 on my LCDs. As Tunis said, refresh isn't really important on an LCD, however if VSync is enabled (which you want it to be to avoid image tearing) your framerate is capped at the refresh rate and I'd rather have an FPS of 75 over 60.

Today I installed the latest catalyst driver (5.4) and it is working great now. still not as good as my old CRT but a big improvement over the way it was.

thanks for all the help!
