USB Mouse Connection.

I just replaced my old Fellowes usb-5 button mouse that was working fine in the usb port
that it was connected to with my new NexxTech usb-8 button mouse, but when I plugged
it into the usb port that the old one was in the pointer just froze. I ended up having to
use the NexxTech usb-to-ps2 converter and connect the my mouse via the ps2 port.

I don't know if I'm for getting something or what, but I thought all I had to do is unplug the
old usb mouse and plug in the new one and that would be that. Like my old mouse, I didn't
install all the fancy MS-centric features, I just want to use the built in usb mouse drive
that comes with WinMe so that I can connect mouse via usb the way my keyboard is.

Perhaps someone hear can give me the steps for connecting my mouse via a usb 2.0
connection, I'm running WinMe and all input on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

When you plug the new mouse in , does WinMe recognize it and attempt to install it ? Have you tried to install the drivers that came with the new mouse ? You should be able to install the drivers from the CD without install all the bloatware the mouse came with .

Just some things you might try . Since I hate WinMe and NEVER fool with WinMe , I might not be able to help you much :(

it may be that there are features on the new mouse that me doesn't recognize - you should probably try installing the drivers that came with it and then you should be able to disable any stuff you don't want

or try the mouse website for specific me drivers id that doesn't work

some older computers do not run native with USB 2.0. if the machine freezes in midstep this may be the problem. (check the stats on the south bridge in the manual - and if older - use the PS2 port)
