I've been looking over the various chipsets that are out on the market, and I wanted to see which chipsets are preferred by people on PCA.

Although I have an ATI Radian 9800 pro 256 that I've had for over a year now and like it, like most users I have never tested all the others listed so a poll won't indicate what's best by any means compared to hardware reviews. My card does play games like Doom3, Quake 4, Fear at 1280 X 1024 with very good, smooth gameplay so I'm happy with it and don't plan to replace it until it's obsolete (unable to properly run newer future games someday).

I've never had a problem with Intel chipsets, and I did have VIA a few times with no problems except for always having to update the VIA 4-1 drivers.

Nforce 4. Altho i do miss my Nforce2 board that had soundstorm on it. It seems that turtlebeach might make a card that can do what the old soundstorm did.

Am using a via (Asrock motherboard) chipset now and have had no problems. Had a Tyan Tiger a few years back and had nothing but problems, most likely not the chipset's fault. Next motherboard purchase will probably have a Nforce chipset.

I vote ULi, since I'm using the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2. It's a really great board for the bargain price. I do hope to replace it with an ATI board tho like the Asus. :)

NForce 2.

when i got one of those, the days of me crossing my fingers when installing VIA drivers were over :)

however, i still have a rock solid AMD761 that has been running 5 yrs.

As I have systems with different chipsets, Nvidia has won the overall stability/performance round with Via coming in a close second followed by Intel. Sis is so far behind, it can't see the others so it thinks it is the only one who makes chipsets.

Can I change my vote? When I started this thread, I swore up and down by VIA. But now, nForce has taken over the lead spot. nForce 2 Ultra, nForce 3 Ultra, both the best chipsets ever. VIA is still in second, though. I have a Shuttle MK40VN with a KM400A chipset that carries it's weight, but my nForce chipsets have run circles around VIA.
