I've got an older D620 dell laptop, though it has a fresh install and still runs like new. I happened to try to close it the other day, and my flash drive fell between the screen and computer, and broke a hinge. Are the hinges terrible to replace?

I know laptops are a whole different game, I once replaced a fan in one, and it seemed to never really be the same, but that was years ago.

The saving grace is that dell has very good online service manuals. You'll have to find someone selling a D620 for parts online somewhere though.

My experience in hinge replacement so far is that it's not too bad. You will likely have to disassemble both the bezel & remove the upper strip above the keyboard. There may be some screws hidden behind stick on covers on the bezel (use a needle or safety pin to remove them). Of course, you'll need a small/tiny philips or even torx screw driver.

Click on "Display Assembly". Shows how to remove the display which shows how to get to the hinges.

I hate dismantling laptops nowadays. It is such a pain from how careful you need to be. They are so much thin plastic, you get afraid to break the stuff.

I found that I can get a pair of hinges for around 15 bucks, and that Dells online service manual makes it seem as it should almost be a piece of cake. Though I know it very well may not be, but it's less dismantling then I previously attempted on a laptop.

Actually, it looks easier than some I've done & that IS a good price on the hinges. I've paid over $50 for some (used at that).
