Q6600 Stock HSF Fan Noise

Wow it's been a while! Nice to be here
My Q6600 fan is giving me a very high pitch squeal every 10 - 20 seconds for about 5 seconds. Any suggestions besides buying a new HSF? I dust my computer out every month, and keep it very clean, so that is not an issue. Ideas??

Sounds to be a bearing issue. Doesn't matter how clean you keep the fan, that issue can crop up on its own. Don't really see any more equitable solution than to replace it though.

Yup, bad bearings. Replacement of the fan is the only option (and given the design of that HSF you'll likely need to replace the whole thing unless someone makes a drop in replacement fan).
That's the stock Intel fan which is probably under warranty if you want to jump through hoops.

I'd upgrade personally, but if you're not overclocking, get this for $16.99 shipped for this & the fan interchanges with intel's if you don't want to swap the actual heatsink:

However, if you are overclocking, I highly recommend a few more dollars & getting a big typhoon (which would unfortunately require the removal of the motherboard). You can get them on ebay reasonably priced or from Amazon:

They have a used one for $36 shipped. Or new ones for about $41 shipped.
Or I bet you could find one of many people who never even used theirs for sale cheap.
