OCZ declares Bankruptcy, Taoshiba Buying Assets - warranties ??

Here’s the problem for ordinary consumers: When one company buys another company’s assets in bankruptcy proceedings, that means the IP, equipment, and worker contracts. It often does not mean the warranty service — at least, not explicitly. If Toshiba intended to operate OCZ as a subsidiary, the PR would simply announce that Toshiba had “acquired” OCZ. If the asset purchase agreement included warranty service for OCZ’s customers, the announcement would likely say that, too.

It’s possible that Toshiba and OCZ will still cut a deal for customer support, but it’s unlikely. OCZ will need the asset sale income to pay its creditors, and Toshiba probably isn’t interested in paying for a bunch of users with drives it doesn’t intend to support.

Whether this will result in OCZ products being yanked off the market altogether or dumped at firesale prices is unclear. Probably some of each.

LOL OCZ fails... who would have guessed that? I still remember back at PCAlan that the crap they gave to give away didn't work properly or was DOA.

I just bought an OCZ drive from Newegg last week. You can bet I bought their extended warranty.

Yep Reno, I remember too, Back when I did reviews for pca, I was really excited to get some hands on some OCZ overclocking ram for review- wasnt stable at default timings. It unfortunatley was decided not to run the review as this was the same time OCZ was on the hunt ans we didnt want our little community crushed

Toshiba is a crap company, they definitely won't go out of their way to provide any warranty or support for OCZ products.
When all else fails, replace the user.

I remember way back when I got something from OCZ and it was garbage and a hassle to deal with them....never got anything else. I had the same problem with creative - bought an MP3 player someone had won in a giveaway which went south and they wouldn't honor the warranty b/c I didn't have a store receipt.
