I have Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 speakers and a Philips Acoustic Edge soundcard. Is there anyway to make the bass sound louder and more massive? Not that it isn't loud already. It sounds better with an SB Live! card but I want to keep the Acoustic Edge.

I use Power DVD 3.0 to watch movies, how should my settings be so that I get the best sound when watching dvd's ?

I have a Hollywood Plus DVD decoder card but it actually gives me worser picture quality than Power DVD's software decoding so I don't use it. Does anyone know what might cause the Hollywood decoder to decode poorly ?

bass response does have to do with the placement of the sub, material is sits on, etc. Try different locations for the best response. There might be an EQ plug-in available from someone, and I have seen EQ/Radio Tuner units that fit in a 5drive bay in the front and look like a cheap car unit.

I'll bet the Klipsch ProMedia speakers are awesome. The home theatre I'm running uses Klipsch towers, center, surrounds and sub. Main reason I went with Klipsch was that they flat-out wasted their only competition - JbL. The highs are high and clear (special Klipsch horns), and the lows are tight and full (cabinet/driver balance). In short, these Indiana built speakers make other makers scrap model numbers. Ask Tommy Lee - They Rock.

Flip side of the coin is that hollywood card (dxr3 - designed and manufactured solely by Creative! -psssssht). I made the mistake of going that route and I wrote a small piece tonight in the general hardware section pertaining that. It made me wish for a Pioneer DVD drive, and the software decoding that my Leadtek WinFast GTS2 came with. I'll be buying new drives, and dropping this brick quickly.

If you want the best DVD decoding, I would get a Radeon. I have the AIW Radeon and the sound/picture quality is amazing. I don't know if this is even a possible solution, but just thought I'd tell ya.

Also like ckaaron stated, the placement of the sub is everything. I have mine (currently an altec lansing ADA-305 2.1 system) under my desk in a "hallway" and it under my desk acts as another cabinent and I get some awsome bass noting it's this little 20w thang.

If you are all into movies (which is the direction I'm heading with my Midiland 8200's on their way) then I would probably place the sub near you will be watching the movies, so you can feel the punch more. Like I said, I don't know the setup of your room or how feasable this idea is, but it's just a thought.

I've pointed the end of the subwoofer, where the air comes out, toward the corner of my walls. It seems to make it sound really loud.
