WorkPro Quantum 9000 Ergonomic Office Chair

Post by FlyingPenguin »

My very comfortable 3 year old Serta iComfort office chair has got a cracked mounting plate under the seat. Still works, and I might be able to milk another year out of it (especially if someone lighter than me uses it), but I'm ready for a new chair.

I was sorely tempted to buy a Herman Miller Aeron chair 4 years ago when they were $900. Now they're $1400! I love them - I got to use one in a hotel for two weeks and it was the best chair I've ever used.

Well I can't quite rationalize spending $1400, so I did some research, and a lot of people on Reddit are saying that the Office Depot WorkPro Quantum 9000 is about the closet you can get to an Aeron chair (people call it a "Baby Aeron").

Normally it's $450 but it must have been my lucky day. When I checked yesterday, it was on sale for $370.

I tried it out at the store and it felt good, so I picked it up.

It is definitely trying to be an Aeron chair. Mesh fabric - I know some people don't like that. Ergonomics are good. Quality of build is impressive. Nice heavy parts, heavy stainless steel bolts not aluminum, and a real long handled hardened steel allen wrench that can keep in your tool box it's so good.

Time will tell, but I'm liking i my first day, once I got it adjusted properly.

I recently purchased a Secret Lab chair. Great chair!

I'm still rocking my Humanscale Freedom chair. It's probably like 15-17 years old by now.

Followup: 2 months later and I'm loving the chair. Mesh felt a touch uncomfortable the first week and then my butt adapted I guess.

10 month follow up. Still loving the chair, and Office Depot still sells it.
