I have yet to make a cool modded case, sure I have cut holes like crazy in my actually setup BUT I have yet to put comp parts where they weren't meant to go...
therefore I have destroyed my old non working VHS VCR, it's an old one with a metal shrowd that looks like wood grain, and I will affectionately call my mod....

The Woody

:) I am begining the creation tomorrow and I shall post pics if I can :) (of course I can!)
even though it may not be something original, I'll work with what I got :)
I'll update on the progress !!

Is it...

....done yet? Most mods only take two days. I'm sure you must be halfway finished by now... :D

Did I say two days?

Post by Bigal »

I'm sorry, I meant to say two months. I hope I didn't get Demrok all fired up. Maybe he's going to pull an all nighter just to catch up.

You are right about one thing; waiting for parts to arrive is part of the deal. Planning ahead and waiting until the major items arrive is the best way to go, but there is always something that keeps the project dragging on for an extra few days or weeks. Those with patience will deal with that and complete the project. Those people that can't wait will make compromises and only end up with the 9/10 th's solution. In your heart, you all know what type of modders you are.

HA done :)
well ALMOST, I still need to finish up the MINOR details... like mounting the CDrom and doing a bit of polishing on the asthetics :) but for the most part, I have the woody up.... and humming.... :D
here's some "80% complete project pics"

MAN was it a pain to rip out the guts of this bitch!! took me nearly 2 hours to remove the actual parts and another 4 hours to clean the case to fit the mobo and parts in!

Oh yes... the power button from the VCR is the on swith for The Woody ;)
gotta wire up the reset switch someplace...
as well the way the CD rom will be situated you won't have access to the eject button... so I plann to solder that baby up to one of the existing buttons on the VCR :) (unfortunately the eject button was lost due to...creative destruction)

things I still need to do..
mount CD Rom so that it comes out VHS slot
Remount VHS slot cover
cut and polish back area for PCI cards and mobo I/O ports
clean up RATS NEST OF WIRES!!! :D
Add a fan some place...

other then that, this simple first time mod was fun to do :) I will have a few new scars on my hands but they are just badges of honor :)

Total system specs
P!!! 733
192 megs of PC133
10 gig maxtor
voodoo2 12 megger
Monster Sound Aureal2

w00t! :D

Wow!

I'm not sure why it took so long, but I like the results. :D

I would mount the reset switch in the back, since you don't usually use it much. I've done that for both my CoolerMaster ATC-710 cases. On my printer-to-computer project, I mounted it inside the manual paper feed door, so you don't see it from the outside.

Do you have enough cooling in there? I understand that it's a Pentium III, so it does not require much. I'm just wondering if it gets a little warm under the hood.

I sure would like to see that CD-ROM eject through the tape drawer. ;)
