Just finished silencing my PC...

Post by TruckStuff »

And DAMN it is quiet! :D I'm literally in awe of how quiet this system is now. My server is now the loudest thing in this room and I used to think it was really quiet. ;) What I did:

1) Replaced stock PSU with a Seasonics Tornado 300W PSU. PSU was the loudest thing in my case, now its the quitest. ;)
2) Replaced stock HSF on my GeForce 6800 with an NV Silencer 5. Amazing how quiet it is.
3) Replaced noisy northbridge HSF with a Zalman NB47J Northbridge heatsink. No fan == no noise.
4) Replaced stock AMD HSF with a Thermalright SI97 + Panaflo L1A fan. Barely even a whisper here.
5) Replaced case fans with a couple more Panaflo L1A fans.
6) Replaced Antec LED fan in the side of my case with an Arctic Cool LED fan. This one is a louder than the Panaflos, but...
7) Put all the fans on a Zalman ZM-MFC1 Fan Controller. At lower speeds, I can barely hear the LED fan.
8) Cut out fan gratings from case for better air flow and less turbulence

CPU temps dropped 5C right off the bat. Case temps about the same. Haven't gamed yet with the NV Silencer 5, but I plan to tomorrow.

I really wasn't sure how much my computer could be quieted, but all I can say is D A M N !! :D :D

awesome results! have you thought about using sound dampening material on the inside of the case too? i've never done it...but have a box full of car audio Dynamat material that would probably do the trick.

nice.

I have my whole system lined in Dyanamat nelps alot. takes time to get it nice though. but if you have a window it makes everything look shiny, and lights reflect off it very well.
